A few weeks ago, I posted a question from Jimbo about this free monitoring program. Jimbo was concerned because all the monitored data gets uploaded to the Sentry website. Some people definitely would not like that. If you don't like this application, you can check out a review of the top 20 Parental Control freebies.
Some people don't seem to mind if the personal information is hosted at Sentry's website.
CC wrote in with another tip. In his classic no nonsense style, he didn't give me anything but a link. I know better than to pass over his recommendations.
Who would have guessed? HP has freeware? They've made this application called HP Smart Web Printing and it's free. It's also a brilliant application that can save you tons of time and considerable amount of printer paper and ink.
I didn't care for the installer that they used, but it certainly did the job. When it was done, I had a new sidebar in Internet Explorer and Firefox. That's a great trick considering that I use a portable version of Firefox. Firefox didn't even give me a warning that someone was trying to install an addon. That's the only issue that had me worried.
HP Smart Web Printing allows you to copy web clippings in the sidebar. Once you have a few clippings, you can preview them in a page, edit or adjust them, and then print or publish them to PDF. The program seems to work flawlessly with no hiccups or lag.
Quote from the website
Save paper by combining portions of numerous web pages onto one page before printing. No more wasteful prints containing clipped pages or a few lines of useless text. Now you'll get an accurate print of the web page you see onscreen.
Once you transfer content to your custom document, you can edit the text and graphics and even resize and delete them. Then print exactly what you see on screen. HP Smart Web Printing will also save your custom document as an Adobe PDF file.
SS-Tools are relative newcomers but I have found their products to be safe, efficient and very easy to use. The best part is that all are available as portable apps. I have them on a flash drive which often saves me time when working on a recalcitrant machine.
cheers.....JIMBO

An overview of free turn-based strategy and war games
I used to be a big gamer. These days, I think I have more fun helping others and writing about free stuff. I can't seem to find the time to devote to a game that lasts more than a few minutes. That's my loss and your gain ... at least I hope you feel that way.
Fortunately, there are people out there who love to play games and write about them. I wouldn't have guessed that Samer, the author of freewaregenius, was a big gamer, but I'd have been wrong. Here's an article I found on his blog recently. If you like this type of game, you won't leave wanting.

If the files on your PC are important to you, you should figure out a way to back up those files somehow. There are many ways to do this and lots of free backup utilities. I'm not very good at making sure my files are safe but I do occasionally back up my system with an old payware disk imager. I was lucky enough to get a free copy of Acronis TrueImage.
I've seen listings for DriveImage XML before, but I've never tried it. My friend Tony has it listed on his site so you can bet that it's a great free backup solution.
Here's a review of the DriveImage XML from Tony at Top Freeware.
Quote from Top Freeware:
Perform full backup images of your logical drives or partitions.
Features include copying directly from drive to drive, scheduling automatic backups with your task scheduler, restoring images to the existing drive or another drive and more. It uses (VSS) Microsoft's Volume Shadow Services and the images are stored in .dat and .xml files, which allows you to use third party tools to process them with. You can also use this as a plugin with BOOT CD's, which is very handy
This (25.5K) no-install program is one I've always wanted. GetIcons does what it says, it grabs icons. You can have it search a folder or the whole drive as I did. This amazing tiny program found 16,895 icons, that I've set to be saved in an Icon folder. This folder will take some time to go through. I've emailed the author so I hope he writes back.
This program works fine under Windows 95/98, NT 4.0, NT 5.0 (2000), NT 6.0 (XP).

Here's a super duper list of freeware that used to be payware. Naturally, just as some of the best web articles are from Wikipedia, so is this list.
Be sure to check out the other two lists that I've linked to below.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Commercial games released as freeware are games that, in their original license, were not considered freeware, but were re-released at a later date with a freeware license, sometimes as publicity for a forthcoming sequel or compilation release.

You really do have plenty of free file hosting choices. Sometimes they don't stick around very long. I really liked using the OmniDrive service, but they are gone now. Recently I've been using BoxDotNet to host files I that need to share online and I'll soon be trying SkyDrive which was recommended to me by some of my friends.
The MediaFire service offers free hosting and you don't even have to register. In other words, there's no limit to the number of files you can host there. The service is very simple to use and the uploads and downloads are surprisingly snappy.
Here's an example: I uploaded this song from JimiPocius.

Get Gmail! and Get Firefox!
You need a free 6 GB Gmail account to access many of the cool features at Google. After more than two years in beta testing Gmail is open to the public. Just go to http://gmail.com and sign up for an account.
I think Gmail works best in the awesome Firefox browser. It's free, easy to use, and it's way more secure than Internet Explorer. My favorite thing to do is to customize Firefox so that it does much more than IE ever could. You can select new button controls for your toolbars, install extensions to add new features, or change the look of your browser with themes - the way Firefox looks and works is under your control.
I get many of the reviews in the newsletter from the readers. You don't have to be a genius or computer guru. Just answer a few questions and send me a review. I'll probably put you in the newsletter.
